We are happy to welcome you to our 2nd annual “History Becomes Art” fundraiser — an afternoon of wine, food, music and the opportunity to obtain art that represents the history of our community.
20 artists have created 30+ works of art inspired by pieces of St. Helena History. They have donated them to be auctioned at our event.
Our first event last year was a tremendous success, thanks to our artist participants and all who attended!
Help us raise funds to establish a permanent home for our collection. With such a facility, the public will be able to learn about the history of our area and enjoy some of the amazing historical artifacts that have been so generously donated to us over the past 16 years.
Canton to St. Helena, 2017
“Canton to St. Helena,” Fifteenth Annual Spirits of St. Helena Cemetery Walk, on Sunday, September 10, 2017. St. Helena High School Drama re-enactors will share fascinating insights into St Helena’s Chinatown and Chinese residents before 1900 buried here. Tours at 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Admission $10.
History Becomes Art, 2017
On February 11, 2017, the public was invited to “History Becomes Art: A Fundraiser for a Home for Us” held at Brasswood Estates. Guests enjoyed an afternoon of artisan hors d’oeuvres, wines from Brasswood Estates, live music and an auction of original art by artists interpreting St Helena history, with Fritz Hatton as auctioneer.
2016 Annual Cemetery Tour
On Saturday, September 10, 2016, guests toured the cemetery where Civil War soldiers buried there were highlighted. St Helena High School drama students became Civil War Reenactors portraying soldier and family of soldiers buried in the cemetery.
Museum for a Day, May 2016
This year, the bi-annual event honored Hispanic families who have shaped the culture and history of St. Helena. Besides the family displays, attendees were entertained by Ballet Zenoalxochiti dancers and the Gastelum Family Band.
Napa Valley History Tours, 2016
On April 14 – 16, 2016, guests took a step back into Napa County’s early history. During this 3-day event, we visited some of the Napa Valley’s most beautiful and historic regions, including Victorian Napa, old town Calistoga and Pope Valley.
2015 Annual Cemetery Tour
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, historians Lin Weber and Mariam Hansen led guests to gravesites around the cemetery and told interesting stories about the many fascinating people buried in St. Helena Cemetery. A special surprise ghost appeared to tell his story.
2014 Annual Cemetery Tour
On Sunday, September 21, 2014, St. Helena Historical Society presented its 12th annual Cemetery Tour, “Celebrating 158 Years of Rest,” featuring a poet, a pioneer, an architect, a miner, an undertaker and the estranged wife of Ambrose Bierce. Museum for a Day, 2014
On Sunday, March 23, 2014, St. Helena Historical Society presented its bi-annual Museum for a Day with all-new exhibits from families of early settlers to St. Helena, a tractor and farm equipment exhibit, historic signs and artifacts from the Historical Society Collection. Several hundred visitors attended, and viewed exhibits, purchased collectibles at our sale and lunch from one of several food trucks. There was also an opportunity to bring old photos in to scan and share with the historical society or participate in an oral history interview. See photos on Facebook.
2012 Annual Cemetery Tour

Museum for a Day, 2012
On Sunday, March 25, 2012, St. Helena Historical Society presented its bi-annual Museum for a Day. Over 300 people got a taste of what it would be like if St. Helena had a history museum—every day! Visitors enjoyed family collections of photographs and memorabilia handed down by some of the earliest local settlers; exhibits from service clubs and fraternal organizations, displays of Indian artifacts by the Napa Valley Museum, and many more displays and exhibits; an antique vehicle show, including a 1927 Chevy flatbed truck and a 1918 Pierce Arrow dump truck used in the Pope Valley mine. There was a great pasta lunch and a chance to bid on some fun items at a silent auction benefiting the historical society. Check out photos of the event on Facebook.
